Acupuncture

Acupuncture has become an increasingly popular, drug free, alternative or complement to Western medicine. GPs, physiotherapists and other healthcare practitioners are now starting to use some needling techniques – albeit not traditional Acupuncture – for certain conditions.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-fine disposable needles into the skin at specific points to achieve therapeutic effects. The procedure is safe, effective and, in the right hands, insertion is no more painful than a pin prick. The needles stay in between 20-40 minutes with a minimum level of discomfort.

Acupuncture claims to benefit a wide range of conditions, although the exact mechanisms by which it may do so are not yet fully understood. Acupuncture does stimulate your body’s natural healing mechanism and can trigger the release of natural pain-inhibiting chemicals. Recent studies show Acupuncture is particularly effective in treating back pain.
