Massage is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. Here at the Alba Chiropractic Clinic, we have a number of massage styles available. These are outlined below:
This involves the application of a more gentle pressure to give a calm and soothing effect – perfect for relieving stress as it induces relaxation and enhances mental concentration. You will benefit physically, too, in the release of toxins; experience less muscle soreness and limitation of movement and, as your pain eases, your circulatory and immune systems will improve.
The therapist uses a deeper pressure for this massage. Its application is known to release chronic and / or acute tension in the muscles. The ultimate aim of this treatment is to release toxins, aid muscle soreness, increase circulation, alleviate chronic pain and, ultimately, to increase flexibility.
A firmer style of massage is used to rectify soft tissue problems, prevent injury and promote recovery. Deep tissue techniques and stretching are used to improve circulation and movement and relieve muscle tension.
Tui Na – pronounced ‘Twee Nah’– is a unique and comprehensive system of Chinese bodywork and clinical massage therapy. It is used largely to treat a variety of musculo-skeletal pain, disorders and injuries. Tui Na can also benefit chronic, stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.
During a Tui Na session, you’ll experience a range of manual techniques including deep-tissue massage, joint mobilisation and manipulation. Tui Na’s primarily focus is on the muscles, tendons and ligaments that support your bony structure. Tui Na also applies dynamic pressure to Acupuncture points, achieving similar effects only without needles.
What happens during treatment? Before beginning a massage, we discuss the reasons why the client needs a massage, whether its for a medical condition, psychological problem – like anxiety or depression – or simply for relaxation. We also need to know some medical background, diet and other factors such as eating habits, fluid and alcohol consumption, smoker or non-smoker and any sleep problems.
