Pilates is a style of body-conditioning which gives you a suppler, more toned body and a calmer, more relaxed mind. It involves enhancing the control and strength of the postural muscles which stabilise the body. By correcting muscle imbalance, faulty muscle recruitment and bad habits, the body is brought back into alignment.
Exercises are mostly performed on a mat where you will be taught the eight
basic principles of Body Control Pilates: concentration, relaxation, breathing,
alignment, centering (core stability), co-ordination (control), flowing movements
and stamina.
As you progress, items such as exercise balls, magic circles and flex bands are mixed into the mat workouts to offer new forms of resistance. It is important to us that each exercise it tailored to suit you, so small groups ensure each exercise is performed correctly.
Anybody with a specific injury or health problems will normally work one-toone with their instructor until they can work safely in a small group class.
